How is the flight time calculated?
We measure the great-circle distance between the two airports with the haversine formula, then divide it by an average cruise speed of 850 km/h and add 30 minutes for taxi, take-off and landing. The result is an estimate — actual duration varies with the routing, the aircraft and the winds.
Do the durations shown include layovers?
No. Every duration on laqayt is for a nonstop flight. Itineraries with a connection take longer, depending on the number of stops and the length of each layover.
Why is the return flight sometimes longer?
Real flight times differ with the direction of the jet stream: westbound flights usually take longer than eastbound ones on the same route. The calculator shows an approximate average for the route.
How is the time difference calculated?
The difference is based on each city's IANA time zone, so daylight saving time is accounted for. The local arrival time in the table adds the time difference to the flight duration.
